As an independent educational consultant, Jennifer Stanton, M.A., is a firm believer in helping students find schools where they can discover the joy of feeling confident and successful. She takes particular interest in guiding students through the essay-writing process, from brainstorming to finalizing supplemental essays. She has extensive knowledge of learning differences and has spoken to parent organizations about finding the best fit for students as they plan for college.

About Me

Based in Southern California, Jennifer has helped students who’ve been accepted at large public schools, such as UCLA, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and the University of Washington; large private schools, such as Boston University, New York University and the USC; small private schools, such as Carleton College, Georgetown University and Washington University in St. Louis; and religious schools, such as Fordham University, St. Olaf College and Gonzaga University.

Jennifer’s passion for writing and inspiring others to write well and find their voice is rooted in a 20-year career as a journalist, including working as an editor at the Los Angeles Times. Her wide-ranging articles have been published in newspapers across the country including the Washington Post, Boston Globe, Philadelphia Enquirer, Chicago Tribune, Miami Herald, Dallas Morning News, Orange County Register and Seattle Times. She has taught writing online and to high school journalists at a camp.

Jennifer spent the last decade in education as a teacher/librarian at a 300-student independent elementary school in the Pasadena area. Her enthusiasm, knowledge and interest in each student inspired a culture that led to a significant increase in reading at the school.

She speaks regularly to parent education classes and parenting groups about the importance of reading in early childhood and the benefits of becoming an empowered writer. She works on college admissions with under-represented students in the Los Angeles area through Sycamores and as a volunteer mentor with College Access Plan in Pasadena high schools.
