Growing up, I always enjoyed teaching and coaching others. I found satisfaction in seeing the success that came from helping others – whether tutoring a friend in math the night before a test or staying after practice to help a teammate perfect their serve. Making the decision to become a teacher was a natural choice for me.
I attended St. Edward’s University, where I earned my degree in Kinesiology with a Biology teaching field. A year later, I applied to graduate school to become an administrator in a decision-making role where I could make an even greater impact on a larger number of students. While earning my master’s, I taught during the day and led practices after school, followed by graduate classes two nights a week and games another two nights a week.
After two dedicated years, I earned my M.Ed. in Administration from Texas State University and began my administrative career at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) High School in Austin, Texas. As the Associate Principal at LASA High School, I had the privilege of working with students from all over Austin, walking with them through the challenges of life and high school as they prepared for the next level in their academic careers. I bonded with the students and became a part of their lives, advising them and coaching them on how to manage stress while helping them find balance in their lives, a critical need that I sought to fulfill.
Five years later, my husband and I moved to the suburbs of Austin and started a family. I wanted to invest time into our new community and experience working at a comprehensive high school, so I made the decision to accept the role of Assistant Principal at Leander High School, an IB World School, in Leander, Texas. I enjoyed working in a diverse setting and finding ways to help students from all walks of life succeed not only in high school but also in preparation for the next level in their lives and academic careers. In total, I have spent 21 years – while wearing many hats – working with students, helping them navigate through life, and preparing them for the next Level Up.
