About Me

I'm a writing specialist who focuses on encouraging and engaging students in the process of college essay writing. I work to set deadlines, provide creative exercises, teach revision strategies, and help students find their writing voice. I enjoy getting to know students with their varying needs and abilities as we work on authentic ways to tell their stories and articulate their insights. The ethics of the college process is important to me, so I avoid the "red ink" approach and focus largely on asking key questions and teaching small craft lessons.

I work with students in both class and 1:1 settings. My work is largely informed from my time in the public high school classroom, which were some of the most important and formative years of my life. My certifications include a: Bachelor's degree in English & Creative Writing, Master of Arts in Teaching, VA Teaching License for Secondary English Language Arts, Advanced Placement Literature certification, International Baccalaureate English Level 2 Certification, Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner (WRS Level I) certification, and a WOW Writing Workshop certification. I've taken every Personal Statement class I can find, whether it is with The College Essay Guy or UC San Diego. In addition, I am in the process of completing a certificate program in College Counseling.
