About Me

After a successful career in law and health policy, I became a private educational consultant in 2010. Both fields involve many of the same skills: extensive research, attention to detail, time management, mentoring, and writing. Initially, I reviewed college applications and edited essays for friends and neighbors (I am a published author of many articles) and helped to identify the best programs for their kids.

After managing my oldest son's college applications - a process involving extensive research on undergraduate theater directing programs, visits to 20+ schools, editing 16 essays, and supervising the creation of a performing arts resume, portfolio and auditions - I was hooked; I knew I wanted to support and guide other kids through the college admissions process. I began extensive professional development, including courses in the UCLA and UC-Irvine College Counseling Programs and through the University of Pennsylvania, annual conferences of the top professional organizations , monthly meetings with colleagues, interviews and webinars with experts, campus visits and college fairs, and reading trade publications and listserv exchanges. I continue to engage in professional development every single day.

College admissions is a field in which learning never stops, whether a counselor has practiced for eight years or 18. For every hour I spend with a student, I invest two or three hours talking with colleagues, visiting colleges, updating materials, and ensuring that I bring the most current knowledge to guide students and families. I am an active member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), the leading organization for independent college admissions consultants. I subscribe to HECA's Statement of Standards and Ethics for college counseling professionals.
