A former lawyer and published author, Tracey carried her research and writing skills into educational consulting after helping her own son through 20+ campus visits and a performing arts application process.

About Me

Tracey Hyams built her first career across law and health policy before becoming a private educational consultant in 2010, drawing on skills — research, attention to detail, time management, mentoring, writing — that carried directly over. She started by reviewing applications and editing essays for friends and neighbors as a published author herself, before managing her own oldest son's college search: 20+ campus visits, 16 essays edited, and a full performing arts portfolio and audition process for undergraduate theater directing programs. That experience hooked her.

Since then, Tracey has pursued extensive professional development through UCLA, UC Irvine, and the University of Pennsylvania's college counseling programs, along with ongoing conferences, webinars, and colleague meetings. She estimates she spends two to three hours in continued learning and preparation for every hour spent directly with a student, and is an active member of HECA, adhering to its Statement of Standards and Ethics.
