In his free time, Abed enjoys kayaking, swimming, hiking, skiing, and loves playing tennis and squash.

About Me
Dr. Abed Baiad is an Ophthalmology Resident Physician at the University of British Columbia. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at McGill University and was accepted into several top medical schools, including the University of Toronto and McGill University. Upon beginning his medical studies at McGill, Abed was elected Class President, a role he embraced with the goal of driving positive change within the medical student community. Over four years, he led initiatives that significantly enhanced medical education and student wellness.
Abed’s leadership and academic achievements have been recognized with several awards, including the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Leadership Award, the National Canadian Federation of Medical Students Leadership Award, Dr. Mark Cohen Prize in Ophthalmology, and Ronald Douglas Naymark Graduation Award. He has also contributed to his field through publications and presentations at renowned international conferences, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, where he received the Best Poster Presentation Award in 2023.
