I currently support high school students as they apply to college, focusing on being positive and supportive so students feel at ease, and using creativity, patience and relatability to help students in all stages of the process.
About Me
Julia is an integral part of our advisory team, along with providing operational and student management support. Julia has worked closely with Avalon students to brainstorm and develop essays, create resumes, finalize applications, complete self-assessments, and plan for activities, extracurriculars, and summer opportunities.
Julia brings to Avalon over a decade of experience working with students of all ages and in different capacities, from teaching to tutoring and from coaching to leading small-group work. She earned her B.A. in Communications & Public Relations at Virginia Tech and spent the early part of her career working in marketing and supplier/client relations at Philip Morris and Altria, as well as in event management and public relations.
Julia’s positive demeanor and supportive, friendly attitude makes it easy for students to connect with her and feel at ease while navigating the college application process. Her creativity, patience and relatability are particularly helpful to students in all stages of the process.
When not working or volunteering, Julia enjoys spending time with her two daughters (one of whom is in high school and starting her own college-bound journey!), her husband, and the ever-changing menagerie of animals living in her house. In her free time, Julia can also be found reading, creating, building, crafting, enjoying family movie nights, getting warm in the sunshine or learning something new.
