About Me
Mike McKinnon, a native of Flora, Illinois, built a genuinely varied career before founding College Planners of America, Ltd. in 1996 — running a group travel business that took him to Europe and the Middle East over 100 times, co-owning a championship-winning football team, buying and restructuring pizzerias, and working in the emerging long-distance telecommunications industry. He brought that hard-won understanding of tax law to bear helping parents of college-bound students.
Mike served 12 years on the Board of Trustees of College of DuPage, four as Chairman, and is a past Executive Board member of NICCP and a member of the Junior College Football Hall of Fame. He was featured in Frank Bruni's 2016 bestseller Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be, which called a conversation with him 'an eye-opening, option-diversifying revelation.' Mike lives in Oak Brook, Illinois with his wife Judy, and says his greatest satisfaction comes from watching students grow from directionless teens into contributing young adults.
