I didn't graduate from high school due to a family tragedy. I had to start by getting my GED, then take my first steps at a community college. I worked hard to get good grades and was fortunate enough to make it to The University of Texas at Austin. While college had its ups and downs, it was a very important time in discovering my passions. I knew I wanted to make sure that no student ever had to take the same road as me.
I returned to the Houston area in 2014 where I worked for a major tech company. My heart still came back to education. I only had 9 hours left to finish my degree, so I worked day and night to power through those classes to graduate. It was truly the culmination of over a decade of hard work. Now I knew I could pursue my dream of working as an educator. I have been in the classroom for seven years and haven't looked back. I teach a subject called AVID which focuses on closing the opportunity gap that many students often face. Last year, our students received over $2,000,000 in scholarships at our school. Since 2022, First Step College Prep students have received over $750,000 in grants and scholarships. We open the door to college and career readiness and truly affect the future of young people. That is my mission with First Step College Prep. We want to create a support system that fosters growth and guidance for students and families seeking it. Applying for college is one of the most important steps in life. I would be honored to help you reach your goals of college readiness!
