About Me
No one wants to read an essay; everybody wants to read a story.
This is a tested and true concept, and lies at the core of my approach to college advising. I am happy to help you build your lists, look through scholarships, and every other aspect of college advising—but the core of what I do is this: I make sure your essay is something the college admissions officials won't be able to put down.
My technique involves two prongs: creative writing exercises to improve my students’ literary skill, and crafting full narrative cohesion for the entire admissions package. I graduated cum laude from Columbia University's Barnard College, where I earned my Bachelors in English. Afterward, I went on to University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, where I earned my Masters in Writing. Combined with 7+ years of admissions consulting experience, this background in story analysis and narrative construction has given me an expert eye for what might make each of my student’s applications sing. Sometimes it’s creative passion, sometimes it’s commitment to a specific field, sometimes it’s academic curiosity, personal drive, leadership—or any of a hundred other unique qualities. By working in close 1-on-1 sessions, I help my students figure out their personal admissions narrative.
This approach has led to acceptances everywhere from MIT to Princeton, Columbia to Georgetown, and in highly competitive specialty programs including B.S./M.D. programs, B.S./D.D.S. programs, game design programs, film schools, and business schools. I also have experience working with graduate students applying to medical and dental school, though undergraduate applications are my specialty. I am happy to work with early bird students (juniors/sophomores) to develop their creative voice early and consult on decisions regarding curricular and extracurricular choices. As a member of the queer community, I often find LGBTQ+ students referred to me and have developed a bit of a sub-specialty there as well.
