A former travel writer who's lived across multiple countries and time zones, Laura breaks the admissions process into manageable steps while helping students craft standout personal essays.

About Me

Laura Mellberg brings a well-traveled perspective to college counseling, having moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Davidson, North Carolina, after living in England and across nearly every U.S. time zone — experience that shapes how she builds a college list tailored to each student.

Her approach is organized but easygoing: manageable, bite-sized tasks with clear deadlines, paired with life skills students carry well beyond the admissions process. Having gone through the process herself as a parent — with one child now in medical school and another in college — she understands the emotional weight of the journey from both sides. A former travel writer of fifteen years, she's especially skilled at helping students find and tell their own story in essays and applications.

Laura holds a B.A. in English from Colorado College and a College Counseling Certificate with distinction from UCLA. She has visited more than 150 college campuses, served as a virtual college coach for the nonprofit ScholarMatch, led a five-day college essay workshop for a local private high school, and read applications for two national scholarships. She's a member of NACAC, SACAC, and a Professional Member of IECA.
