About Me

Known as The College Guru™, Geanine Thompson has spent over a decade helping ambitious, high-achieving students navigate the college admissions process — work she describes as her true calling. A graduate of Dartmouth College and Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, both her first-choice schools, she brings a genuinely unusual career path to her counseling practice.

Right out of college, Geanine landed a coveted spot as an editorial assistant in book publishing at Berkley Publishing Group (now part of Penguin Random House), where she rose to assistant editor helping acquire and shape books for the imprint. A growing interest in personal finance eventually led her from publishing to Wall Street — giving her firsthand experience across publishing, finance, nonprofits, and startup entrepreneurship that most college counselors simply don't have.

That range shows up early in her story too: as a kid who read voraciously by flashlight, spent summers in a college-sponsored STEM enrichment program, and got her start in theater as a third-grader cast as the Wicked Witch in her school's production of The Wizard of Oz — a path that eventually led to hosting an ongoing organization-focused segment on an NBC lifestyle show as an adult. Geanine describes herself as genuinely balanced between creative and analytical thinking, and she brings that same multidimensional approach to helping students compete for their dream school, dream internship, and dream life.
