Danny draws from over twenty years of combined experience in education and entrepreneurship to guide his students with creative energy. His journey as an educator began while attending Phillips Exeter Academy, where he trained non-native English speakers in contemplative writing and admissions essay preparation for top U.S. boarding schools. While teaching, he enjoyed empowering students to achieve meaningful personal milestones. Upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008, he started a college counseling program in Korea, which focused on helping students to discover, develop, and convey their talents to their dream schools.

About Me

Prior to joining ILUMIN, Danny was the Co-founder and Marketing Director of a Silicon Valley nutraceuticals company, and managed its growth for over nine years. His startup experience inspires his mentorship approach; he loves working with students to identify unique ways of showcasing their core values and strengths, and expressing their insights through thoughtful college essays. He believes that the admissions process can help students gain deeper self-awareness, preparing them for exciting and fulfilling careers.

Originally from Korea, Danny first came to the U.S. to attend Harker School in sixth grade. He earned his B.A. in international relations from UPenn with double minors in economics and East Asian studies. As an educational consultant, he feels a great sense of purpose in helping students stay true to themselves while pursuing their passions with all their hearts.
